The Central Library is the headquarters for the St. Louis City Public Library system and is located in the Downtown West Neighborhood of the City of St. Louis, Missouri. Built in 1901 with stained glass and stenciled ceilings, it is a historic landmark and was built with a gift from Andrew Carnegie to the citizens of the city that stipulated that the library be "free to the public." The Central Library is host to many events throughout the year, such as concerts, festivals, plays, children's programs and more.
