The annual World Eagle Day at the World Bird Sanctuary celebrates eagles from around the world. This event features Eagle Shows (11am, 1pm & 3pm), crafts, games, tours of the Sanctuary and other activities will take place throughout the day. Photo ops will be available so bring your camera! Admission is a $2 donation per person; kids 10 and under are FREE! See website for more details.
The World Bird Sanctuary is located within Lone Elk County Park in Valley Park, Missouri on 305 acres of forested land. The Sanctuary was founded in 1977 by Ornithologist Walter C. Crawford, Jr. who saw a need for a facility for the preservation and study of birds of prey. The Sanctuary has a wildlife hospital, educational programs, nature trails, picnic facilities, live animal presentations in their amphitheater and live birds on display. It is free to enter the World Bird Sanctuary which is open 8am to 5pm every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Free parking, too. There are some programs which charge a fee, call for availability. Special events and open houses are held throughout the year.
Directions: Take I-44 exit #272 to the Valley Park/Highway 141. Go north on 141 and make an immediate exit at the North Outer Road. Go west on North Outer Road for 2.6 miles to the World Bird Sanctuary's entrance that will be on the right. If you get to the Lone Elk Park entrance, you’ve gone too far.
